Housing

Georgia State students can truly call Atlanta “home” by living in our on-campus residences. Enjoy the convenience of living just a few blocks from classes, dining halls, the recreation center and the libraries. Mix and mingle with thousands of diverse students for a smooth transition into college life. Georgia State offers two beautiful housing options, featuring apartment-style suites: the University Commons and the University Lofts. Floor plans and pricing varies, so be sure to review the descriptions to find your best fit.

University Commons

Brand-new as of Fall 2007: a 4.2-acre complex of four apartment buildings ranging from 8 to 15 stories, around a large landscaped courtyard. Just blocks from classrooms, the Student Center and the Rec Center, the University Commons houses 2,000 students in two- and four-bedroom apartments.

Accommodations
All bedrooms are private singles in two- or four-bedroom apartments. Plan to room with same-sex friends, invite guests over occasionally, and hang out in coed hallways and common areas. ADA-accessible apartments are also available.

Other amenities include:

  • Student Health Clinic
  • Food services
  • Laundry facilities
  • Study spaces
  • Lounges
  • Large multi-purpose conference rooms
  • Mailroom
  • Management offices
  • Wireless connections throughout the complex
  • 786 covered parking spaces

Safe entry to the building is assured by a convenient 24-hour card-key access system and a security desk staffed round-the-clock.

Apply to Live at University Commons
University Housing will begin accepting applications online through GoSolar for the 2007/2008 academic year in mid-January 2007. To be eligible for housing, you must be admitted to Georgia State University. Be sure to apply for housing as soon as you are admitted to the university, because waiting lists develop quickly.

Rates — which are subject to change — include utilities (electricity/gas/water), local phone service, Internet connection, basic cable TV connections, and furniture. Optional meal plans will be offered for an additional fee. Limited parking is available for an additional cost.

The Lofts

The Lofts sit in the middle of the action at Georgia State. Adjacent to Alumni Hall in the center of campus, the Lofts have 231 apartments in 8 floor plans, with a total occupancy of 431. Lofts are available primarily for undergraduates, but we have some spaces available for single students age 21 and older, married students and students with children. Also, several floors house the Community of Scholars, an academically focused community for undergraduates enrolled in a scholar’s program or in the University Honors Program.

Accommodations
The loft-style construction boasts open floor plans, sealed concrete flooring, and exposed ductwork. In keeping with the surrounding architecture, The Lofts features an urban façade.

Parking at the lofts is available in the adjacent deck for an additional fee. Please contact Auxiliary Services for information.

Location
135 Edgewood Avenue, adjacent to Alumni Hall.

University Lofts Tours
For more information or to tour The Lofts, e-mail housing@gsu.edu, call (404) 232-8380 to schedule an appointment, or visit The Lofts Community Office at 135 Edgewood Avenue SE, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (closed holidays).

Apply to Live at the Lofts
To be considered for an apartment in The Lofts, students must complete the online application and submit the $50 non-refundable application processing fee. The application is available on GoSOLAR by clicking Univeristy Housing on the student menu. Apartments are offered to applicants in the order in which applications are received by the Housing Office, on a space available basis. The waiting list starts early.

Submitting an application does not guarantee a housing assignment.  Assignments are made on a first come-first served basis. Housing is assigned to current residents based on a lottery system.
