Freshman Admission Timeline
Fall of your junior year in high school
- Take the PSAT test.
- Attend college fairs in your area.
Spring of your junior year in high school
- Take the SAT I or ACT test (make sure to request that your scores be sent to Georgia State).
- Begin deciding which colleges you want to apply to.
Summer before your senior year in high school
- Visit colleges that interest you to get a feel for campus life.
- Come to one of our information sessions, offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday-Friday (excluding holidays). We also offer a bus and walking tour at 10:30 and 2:30 on Monday-Friday. You may set up an appointment for one or both of these using our online registration form or by calling the Welcome Center at (404) 413-2063.
September-November of your senior year
- Submit college applications, application fees, transcripts and test scores to Georgia State.
November of your senior year
- Attend "Panther Preview," Georgia State’s open house, and hear presentations on such topics as financial aid, the honors program and scholarships.
- Speak with representatives from campus departments and ask questions.
December of your senior year
- Expect to begin receiving decision letters from the colleges you have applied to.
- If your acceptance letter indicates that final transcripts are still needed, submit them as soon as they are available. After registering for your first semester, you will not be permitted to register for future terms until these documents are received.
- Your official acceptance letter also contains information about your entry term and major. If you change your plans or desire to start in another term, you must notify the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to be reconsidered. Please note that published application deadlines must be met.
- Your residency classification is also listed in the acceptance letter. If you feel that your residency classification is incorrect, you will need to file a form. If you need us to mail you a petition, please contatct the Office of the Registrar.
- Verify that your residency status, address, major and immunization status are correct.
January of your senior year
- Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online by visiting the Office of Student Financial Aid.
February of your senior year
- After you’ve been accepted, apply for housing via GoSOLAR. If you are interested in living on campus, you should apply for housing as soon as possible.
March of your senior year
- Make sure your financial aid file is complete by the April 1 priority deadline so you will have the best access to financial aid.
April of your senior year
- Celebrate your decision to attend Georgia State in the fall! If you have any additional questions, you can meet with departmental representatives or call the Office of Admissions at (404) 413-2500.
May of your senior year
- You’ll receive your packet of information about our orientation program, Incept. Choose a date to attend and send back the response card.
June of your senior year
- You must successfully complete all of your high school CPC courses. Should you fail to complete these requirements, your acceptance will be rescinded and you will not be allowed to register.
- Upon graduation, have your high school send us a final transcript so that we can complete your admissions file.
June-August before you start college
- Attend Incept. Meet with academic advisors to plan your schedule and register for classes. Socialize with current and new students, and learn your way around campus.
- Pay tuition and fees, obtain a student identification card, register for parking and start classes!
