Accounting

The Office of Accounting Services, report to the Office of the Comptroller and is responsible for the general accounting and financial reporting of the University and is dedicated to providing accurate and timely analysis of accounting information and the interpretation of both internal and external financial reports.  The Office of Accounting Services is also responsible for recording and reporting the financial transactions of the Georgia State University Research Foundation and the Georgia State University Athletic Foundation.

Our mission is to meet the needs of the campus community by participating and by being responsive to its needs.  Our primary goal is to provide services, processes, and policies that maximize flexibility for academic departments while complying with governmental regulations.  Our key processes include but are not limited to Bank Reconciliation, Sales Tax Filing, Asset Management, Financial Reporting and General Ledger Management.

In Cooperation with the Office of Budget and Planning, the Office of Accounting Services monitors and coordinates the reporting of actual versus budgeted revenues and expenditures.  We provide managerial reports and serve as fiscal advisors to college administrative and business officers.  Our customer service activities include training and development for our constituents.

The Office of Accounting Services is responsible for the preparation, content, maintenance and control of the Georgia State University Chart of Accounts.  All requests for additions, deletions, or changes to account names or numbers for all funds except 10, 50, and 20 are submitted to the Office of Accounting Services, changes to Fund 10xxx or 50xxx are submitted to the Office of Budget and Planning, Changes to FC 20xxx are submitted to Research Financial Services.  The Office of Accounting Services is directly responsible for the accounting and reporting of the following fund codes:
