 nstitute for Research’s director for the Program forthe International Asse
 ssment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)\, will give a presentation entitled\,
  “Measuring the Literacy Competencies of the United States and 23 Other Co
 untries\,” on Friday\, Oct. 4\, 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in the College of 
 Education\, room 1030 (30 Pryor Street\, Atlanta). </p>\n<p>This presentat
 ion\, coordinated by the College of Education\, the Area of Focus Initiati
 ve – Research on the Challenges of Acquiring Language and Literacy\, and t
 he Center for the Study of Adult Literacy\, will provide information on th
 e Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) a
  large-scale study funded by the National Center for Education Statistics 
 (NCES) and conducted in 2011-2012.</p>\n<p>On October 8\, 2013\, the first
  results from the PIAAC will be released. PIAAC looks at the key cognitive
  and workplace skills of working-age adults (ages 16-65)\, and provide in-
 depth information about U.S. adults competencies compared to adults in the
  24 participating countries. Data from PIAAC can enable the U.S. to better
  understand its global competitiveness\, benchmark how well education and 
 training systems are meeting emerging skill demands\, and develop strategi
 es that take advantage of our strengths to enhance productivity.</p>\n<p>A
