Visiting (Transient) Student Admission

Visiting (transient) students are those who are enrolled at another regionally accredited college or university in the United States and intend to apply their Georgia State credits to a degree from their home institution.  Students attending Georgia State in visiting status, may attend for only one fall or one spring semester.  However, students may apply to attend unlimited summer semesters.

If you have attended Georgia State before as a visiting student and wish to return again as a visiting student, you need to apply as a reentry student and submit an updated statement of permission.

If you wish to change your status to a transfer student after attending as a visiting student, you must file a new Application for Undergraduate Admissions and submit a new $50 application fee.  We prefer that you submit it online but you may also download a copy.

Study Abroad and Transient Students

If you're interested in participating in a Study Abroad experience as a transient student, please investigate our Study Abroad Program to learn about programs and procedures.

Please note:

  • All students are required to submit proof of immunization to the University Health Services before they will be permitted to register.
  • Financial aid is not typically available for transient students.
  • Visiting students should be prepared to provide a personal copy of a transcript that documents completion of any required prerequisites for Georgia State courses. Students should refer to the online Registration Guide for additional information.

Establishing Georgia Residency
For the purpose of establishing Georgia residency for tuition and fee payment, your legal residence is your permanent home. Not only must you live in Georgia, but you must intend to remain indefinitely. The durational requirement for Georgia residence under the Board of Regents' regulation is 12 months before the semester for which you intend to enroll. If you entered Georgia to attend an educational institution, the time in school is not normally counted toward the 12-month residence requirement. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail us at registrar@gsu.edu.
