Freshmen Admission

Those applicants who have never enrolled in a regionally-accredited college or university (unless jointly enrolled while completing high school) are freshman applicants.  Those applicants who have not attended an accredited high school should refer to our home-school information.

Admission Requirements

For Fall 2007, more than 9,200 applications were submitted to Georgia State for 2,500 freshman openings. For Fall 2008, we anticipate receiving 10,600 applications for 2800 freshman openings.

The middle 50% of students who entered Georgia State in the Fall of 2007 had SAT combined scores between 1000 and 1170 and an average high school GPA on College Preparatory Classes of 3.3.

As a research university, Georgia State requires completion of the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) course units:

  • 4 English
  • 4 math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and one additional math course with these three courses as prerequisites)
  • 3 natural science (at least one laboratory course from the life sciences and at least one laboratory course from the physical sciences)
  • 3 social science (at least one course focusing on the United States studies and at least one course focusing on the world studies)
  • 2 foreign language (both units must be in the same language)

Freshman applicants must request either SAT or ACT scores. All test scores must be submitted electronically directly from the appropriate testing agency.  We will not review any application based on test scores received on a high school transcript nor will we consider paper rush reports.  We therefore encourage applicants not to pay the extra fees required for rush reporting.

The minimum test score requirements mandated by the Board of Regents are

  • 430 verbal/critical reading and 400 mathematics on the SAT
  • 17 English and 17 math on the ACT

Application Requirements

  • Complete the Georgia State University Undergraduate Admissions Application.  We prefer that you submit it online, but you may also download a PDF copy.
  • Have your high school submit an official copy of your transcript.
  • Request that SAT and/or ACT scores be sent electronically directly from the testing agency.
  • Submit a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
