ATLANTA- The University Commons housing complex at Georgia State University, is the "Best overall dorm in the country," according to CampusSplash.com, a website that provides high school and college students news about college life and admissions.
The website released its first "Dormy Awards" this week, ranking the University Commons first-place for "Schools with the Best Overall Dorms" and fourth on the list of the "Best 14 Dorms in the Country." Based on over 7,100 reviews, the University Commons received an average of 4.5 stars, with five stars in categories, including location and convenience, quiet study environments and cleanliness.
"It's always nice to hear that our facilities and services are well regarded. I hope that prospective students consider the quality of the residential experience to be yet another good reason to make GSU their institution of choice," said Douglass Covey, vice president for student affairs.
The Commons, a 4.2-acre complex of four apartment buildings ranging from 8 to 15 stories, houses approximately 2,000 Georgia State University students. Georgia State opened the University Commons at Piedmont Avenue and Ellis Street in August 2007.
"Our vision has always been to provide students premiere housing on our campus," said Marilyn De LaRoche, director of University Housing. "If you are involved and you and like your living environment, statistics shows that students who live in a residence halls graduate at higher rates, have higher grade point averages and they're more connected with their university community. If you want to succeed you want to choose a university with a good residential program and move on to a campus and get involved. That's what we offer students an opportunity to succeed through housing."
