The Early Childhood Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Birth Through Five (B-5) teacher preparation.  Program graduates will also earn the PreSchool Special Education Endorsement.  Major coursework is provided to prepare new teachers or further develop the competencies of current teachers to work with children from infancy through Kindergarten, both typically developing and those with disabilites.  Extensive field work throughout the program culminates in a student teaching experience at one of the age levels. 

Suggested Schedule of Courses

This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses based on degree requirements in the current catalog.  This guide is not a substitute for academic advisement — contact your advisement office if you have any questions about scheduling or about your degree requirements.  Also see the Undergraduate Catalog for a complete list of requirements and electives to choose from.

Students may choose to attend a summer term to reduce their load during fall or spring semesters but still stay on track to graduate in four years.

Freshman Year

Freshman Milestones:

• Complete all Area A requirements
• Attend the major fair and declare a major
• Take math placement test before registering 
•  

Sophomore Year

Sophomore Milestones: 

• Georgia State University GPA of 2.75 or higher  is required for BRF
• Complete English core and Area F with a C or higher
• Take GACE Basic Skills examination (required for application to teacher education program)
• With the completion of Term 4, students will apply to the BRF Teacher Education program. 

Junior Year

Junior Milestones: 

• Meet with Faculty Advisor
• Register with Career Services Office 
• Apply for Graduation
