ATLANTA – Georgia State University students and employees will have a chance to discover what it takes to be the CEO of a top company and find out how reporters get their stories at the USA Today CEO Forum this week.
Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo! Carol Bartz will be interviewed by David Lieberman, USA Today senior media reporter for the Money section, live at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 in the Student Center Ballroom. No tickets are required for this free event, which is open to all GSU students and employees, as well as the general public.
Started in 2006, the USA Today CEO Forum is presented twice a year on the campus of a select major university noted for its academic achievements in the field of business.
“Being selected to host the USA Today CEO Forum is an excellent testament to the strength of Georgia State's academics, especially in the College of Business,” said Cara Dawn Jones, GSU campus events advisor. “We are honored to be able to have such a prestigious event on our campus.”
In a 75-minute format, Lieberman will conduct an in-depth and engaging interview with CEO Bartz, asking about her road to the top, key milestones in her career, thoughts on leadership and future plans for the road ahead. A question and answer session with the audience will follow the interview.
"This is an excellent opportunity for our working professional students to hear one of the foremost CEOs in the nation interviewed by one of USA Today's best money reporters," said H. Fenwick Huss, dean of the Robinson College of Business. "This interaction, coupled with audience questions, will provide our students with insights they can take back to the classroom and into the workplace. The Robinson College and Georgia State are honored to be working with USA Today to bring this extraordinary event to our campus."
Attendees of the forum will also get a unique perspective on how news stories are produced. Lieberman’s interview with Bartz will be used for an article that will appear Monday, Oct. 4, in the Money section of USA Today.
Bartz has served as chief executive officer of Yahoo! and as a member of the Board of Directors since January 2009 and as president since April 2009. Currently, Bartz also serves as the lead director of Cisco Systems, Inc., a networking technology company, and as a director of the National Medals of Science and Technology Foundation.
Prior to becoming the CEO of Yahoo!, Bartz held multiple leadership roles from 1992 to 2009 at Autodesk, Inc., a computer-aided design software provider, including Executive Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2009.
Lieberman joined USA Today in December 1993 and has led the paper’s coverage of major deals including Disney-Capital Cities/ABC and AOL-Time Warner, and chronicled the digital revolution and its impact on consumers and public life. Prior to joining USA Today, he covered television as a reporter and editor for TV Guide and also a media and entertainment editor for Business Week.
