Middle East Studies

College: College of Arts and Sciences
Degrees: B.I.S.
See Also: Middle East Studies

The interdisciplinary Middle East Studies major differs from other majors in that students study a specific part of the world in great depth and from a variety of perspectives.  Students design their own course of study from among courses approved by the Middle East Institute.  Courses are drawn from the Departments of History, Religious Studies, Political Science, Communication, Art History, Women's Studies, the MEI itself, and others.  Students study a language of the region through at least the intermediate level.  The major is ideal for students who want a well-rounded understanding of the Middle East.

Career Opportunities

An interdisciplinary degree in Middle East Studies prepares students for a wide variety of careers in the federal government, business, nonprofits, and the military.  Students may also wish to proceed on to graduate school.  Previous students have received Fulbright and other prestigious scholarships following graduation.
