The purpose of the Bachelor of Science Program in Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University is to prepare instructional personnel who will be qualified to direct the education of young children from pre-school through elementary grades. The theme of this program is to develop teachers as facilitators of learning. Coursework, extensive field experience and collaboration among school and university faculty combine to develop a program that supports the professional growth of the novice educator.

There are two program options for completing the B.S.E. degree in Early Childhood Education:

• Traditional Program in Early Childhood Education leading to general certification in PreK - 5th grade, which includes English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement
• Dual Certification Program in Early Childhood and Special Education leading to certification in PreK - 5th grade and certification in PreK - 12th grade special educaton general curriculum, consultative

Courses in the junior and senior years vary depending on which B.S.E. Early Childhood Education program option is selected.

Career Opportunities

The Early Childhood Education program prepares students for employment in preschool through fifth grade settings.  Upon successful completion of the program, which includes a passing score on GACE (http://www.gapsc.com/), the College of Education recommends the student for initial certification in Early Childhood Education in the State of Georgia.
