The Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL is an inter-related and multifaceted applied linguistics program that focuses on adult second language acquisition in its broadest sense (e.g., the acquisition of literacy, sociolinguistic competence, corpus linguistics, second language teacher education, task-based curricula and so forth).
The Applied Linguistics major seeks to prepare students for various diverse careers, including: Anthropology, Linguistics, English Teaching, International Affairs, ESL Teaching Abroad, Technical Writing, Communication, Journalism, Sociolinguistics, Interpretation/Translation, Foreign Language Teaching, and Intercultural Affairs.
This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses for students to follow, including milestones that should be met each year.
B.A. in Applied Linguistics
