Mission

The 1913 Society – a student ambassador program established by the Office of the President and supported by the Division of University Relations – provides an opportunity for outstanding undergraduate students to serve as official hosts and goodwill ambassadors for the university. Student Ambassadors will represent the university and the president with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Selected students must meet and maintain the following requirements:

  1. Must be a sophomore, junior or senior taking a minimum of 9 hours per semester.
  2. Must be in good disciplinary standing as that term is defined in the Student Code of Conduct
    (See the On Campus Student Handbook), and prior disciplinary actions may be taken into account when determining whether the student will be considered further in the application process. All students will be required to sign a waiver allowing the Office of the President to review their disciplinary and other relevant educational records.
  3. Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA at time of application.
  4. Must have a flexible schedule – available for night and/or weekend events.
  5. Exhibit strong public speaking & interpersonal skills - speak clearly and precisely with groups and individuals.
  6. Maintain regular contact with the Advisor
  7. Exhibit an understanding of, or a willingness to learn about all aspects of Georgia State
    University – history, administration, university mission, etc.
  8. Participate in events willingly and professionally.
  9. Show enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to Georgia State University.
  10. Exhibit the ability to initiate conversations with alumni/donors and other VIPs.
  11. Exhibit strong customer-service skills: have a positive, helpful, "can-do" attitude.
  12. Maintain ambassador "uniform" and appropriate appearance at all events.
  13. Attend mandatory training session and regular meetings.
  14. Sign confidentiality form and photo release form.

Selected students will be expected to participate in the following types of programs and/or events:

  • Commencement
  • Naming ceremonies, Groundbreaking ceremonies, Dedications and other official university events
  • Donor and Foundation Trustee events
  • Athletics events
  • Alumni Association events
  • Presidential lunches and dinners

Important Dates:

  • March 12 - 23, 2012 – Interviews
  • April 3, 2012 – First Meeting/Induction*
  • May 6, 2012 - Spring Commencement*

    *Mandatory Events
