The Advisement Process
Academic advisement is an essential component of an education at Georgia State, and the university is committed to providing advice and assistance that students need at every step of their degree programs.
Undergraduate Students
The Student Advisement Center, located at 255 Sparks Hall, serves all freshmen students, new transfer students who have fewer than 42 credit hours, undecided majors, and students in the Academic Improvement Program (all undergraduate students with an academic standing of supervision or probation). Students may contact the center at (404) 413-2300 to schedule an appointment with an adviser. Walk-in advisement is also available for students who have brief questions. Contact the center, or visit their web site, for walk-in days and times.
Students in the Academic Improvement Program are required to meet with an academic adviser prior to registering for classes each semester. Students should also speak with an adviser prior to withdrawing from any class to avoid potential policy violations that may result in partial or total withdrawal for the semester. Students on supervision or probation are required to meet with an adviser to have their registration schedules approved and registration holds removed.
All undergraduate students who have earned 42 hours or more and have declared a major should seek advisement from their college's Office of Academic Assistance, listed below:
- College of Arts & Science
- Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
- College of Education
- College of Health and Human Sciences
- Robinson College of Business
Law students follow an established curriculum. Students should contact their faculty advisers directly to schedule advisement appointments.
Graduate Students
Unless otherwise specified, all graduate students are advised through the Office of Academic Assistance (OAA) in their respective colleges (see the links above). Contact your college if you have questions about advisement resources available to you.
