The AYSPS benefits from Atlanta’s vibrant and growing nonprofit sector, which includes the headquarters of a number of national and international nonprofit organizations, and some of the largest foundations in the country. Interactions with the nonprofit community allow AYSPS faculty and research associates to address relevant issues and to produce useful knowledge. One of the ways we stay connected to the community is through our Nonprofit Studies Program Advisory Board of some 15-20 prominent nonprofit community leaders, who help set the direction for our program and enhance its visibility. Nonprofit Studies Program initiatives to promote academic-community interaction have included the convening of presentation and discussion forums. We sponsor a Nonprofit Executive Roundtable each spring, which brings together top area nonprofit leaders and scholars to analyze the latest trends in nonprofit sector development. In the fall we host an annual UPS Lecture on Nonprofit Leadership, Governance and Economic Stewardship.
Additionally, the Nonprofit Studies Program sponsors study groups that bring together policymakers, funders, service providers, academics and community leaders to discuss the most pressing research needs of the nonprofit sector, and how to address them. Nonprofit Studies Program faculty and research associates have provided professional expertise to a wide variety of organizations locally, nationally and abroad. As concerned and philanthropic citizens, a number of AYSPS faculty and associates serve as volunteers in local nonprofit organizations, including serving on nonprofit boards.
