A sense of excitement envelops the Nonprofit Studies
Program in the Andrew Young School at Georgia
State these days. We are building a first-class, comprehensive center for nonprofit studies, grounded in the
deep interests and knowledge of our outstanding
faculty, an energetic and accomplished student body, and the commitment of Atlanta’s nonprofit community. Faculty expertise runs deep in the disciplines of policy analysis, economics, public finance and public management, and in community, urban and international studies. Through teaching, research and community service, our faculty and students focus this knowledge on the particular challenges of managing nonprofit organizations and analyzing the problems and policies that influence their effectiveness.
At the Andrew Young School we recognize the enormous potential we have to develop one of the very best centers of nonprofit study in the world, and to have a unique and significant impact on the economic and policy issues that challenge the contemporary nonprofit sector, in the U.S. and abroad. We are building strong collaborative relationships with faculty throughout Georgia State University and
at other universities in Atlanta and beyond. We have
the benefit of a first-class advisory board that includes top executives of leading nonprofits, ranging from Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the American Cancer
Society at the national level, to the Community Foundation
for Greater Atlanta and the Atlanta Community
Food Bank at the local level. And we have the commitment
of the leadership of our school and university to create excellence in the study of this important sector
of our society. Indeed, the chair which I have the honor to occupy is evidence of that commitment – the only endowed chair in private enterprise devoted specifically
to nonprofit initiative.
This is an important time for the nonprofit sector
and for university programs that seek to educate the talent, offer the information and guidance, and produce the new research that will give nonprofits their best chances to succeed. I believe that the Nonprofit Studies Program at Georgia State University is one of the very best places to pursue this important work. Consider joining us!
